The infamous "Failed to initialize hal" error

Try

1. run fsck to fix the filesystem Hal worked like it should; or


2. sudo update-rc.d -f dbus remove
sudo update-rc.d dbus defaults 12


3. sudo cp /var/cache/hald/fdi-cache~ /var/cache/hald/fdi-cache
sudo chmod 755 /var/cache/hald/fdi-cache
